FREE for a (very) limited-time, in the wake of Google?s recently-launched YouTube client gaining ?Universal? support, indie developer ? Stephan Gauch ? is dropping what he calls ?the missing YouTube app,? down from its usual price of $1.99 this week, in the hopes it?ll replace Google?s own offering on your iPad?s homescreen.
YouTube clients have been done to death following it becoming increasingly clear that Apple was planning to oust Google from its mobile platform ? sure, but TubeExplorer may just be an alternative worth a look, if you?re one of these people who likes everything in one place.
Designed to be as simple as possible, showing all your go-to video browsing options in a tab bar that clings to the app?s leftmost side, the app?s menu uses a clean electric blue and light grey aesthetic which is accompanied by easy-to-understand icons, showing you just which sections are available.
From the menu, you?ll be able to jump to all the different (likely familiar) sections which dice-up the video sharing service?s many offerings, sections such as: Featured, Top Rated, Subscriptions, Favorites, Watch Later, Uploads, (and more).
When watching video through the app you?ll also find the necessary options to select a video?s quality, (including options up to 720p). TubeExplorer will let you browse featured, most popular and top rated videos, as well as browse videos contained in YouTube?s expansive, user-uploaded library ? by category.
For those who want to post their opinion of what they just watched, you?ll also find comment and rate functionality. You can see more from the YouTuber you?re currently viewing by heading to TubeExplorer?s ?More from? section, and the ?Related? section will provide you with a visual list of videos related to the one you?re watching ? (but not necessarily from the same YouTuber).
TubeExplorer?s many (easily-accessible) filter options will help you fine-tune your watching experience, by giving you the one-tap tools needed to filter YouTube?s library of video content by either: rating, view count, date of upload or duration, allowing you to find just what you may be after without the fuss.
In addition, you?ll also be able to subscribe to channels and manage your subscriptions, manage your own video and ?Watch Later? playlists, as well as managing your ?Favorites? ? all from right within the app ?
And, if you do happen to find something you want to share with others, TubeExplorer will let you share videos you watch by either e-mail, Twitter or Facebook.
This is one not to be missed.
