A standard homeowners or renters policy does not cover flood damage. While the Kemper companies do not sell flood insurance, you may purchase flood coverage from a private insurer or from the National Flood Insurance Program.
In addition to flood zone residents, the Insurance Information Institute suggests considering flood coverage if you live in an area where your home could be flooded by:
- ponds or creeks that overflow
- melting snow
- water that falls down steep hills
A flood insurance policy goes into effect after a 30-day waiting period.
